Niitsuru Winery — Our Wine Philosophy

Niitsuru Winery is a young winery that opened in 2019 in Aizumisato, Fukushima. We grow grapes and make wine in harmony with the rich natural landscape of Aizu, aiming for wines that are deep in flavour, wonderfully aromatic and approachable. We hope you will continue to enjoy the wines of Aizu and Fukushima.

About Us

Great wine begins
with great grapes.

Wine is made essentially from grapes alone — which is precisely why growing good grapes matters most.

In our own vineyards we pursue the highest possible quality, expressing a flavour unique to Aizu. Caring for every single grape and cluster, we craft our wine with all our heart.

Story

From abandoned fields
to a region’s future.

We began growing grapes in 2016 and started winemaking in 2018. Then, in May 2019, Niitsuru Winery opened its doors.

The Niitsuru district of Aizumisato has long been wine-grape country, but ageing farmers and a shortage of successors have left more and more fields abandoned. To change this, we put those fields back to work, aiming to revitalise the region.

Vineyard

Clay hills, nurtured by the wind.

Niitsuru sits on clay-soil hills. Although the Aizu basin is fairly humid, the steady winds here keep excess moisture away, making it well suited to fine grapes. We use both pergola and trellis training and plant many varieties to find those best suited to this land.

Red-Wine Grapes

Zweigelt Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc Pinot Noir Muscat Bailey A Almo Noir Yama Sauvignon

White-Wine Grapes

Chardonnay Pinot Gris Mondbrié Sauvignon Blanc
